Seeking to redeem California’s promise of equal education for all children

California’s constitution guarantees all children the equal right to be educated. Throughout U.S. history, whenever the right to education has been abridged--whether based on race, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identification or disparate income--courts and legislatures have brought this bias to light and struck down the barriers to equal education. We believe SB 277 discriminates against the 225,000 children who currently hold previously lawful vaccine exemptions and who will be prohibited, without any compelling state interest, from attending school in California unless they submit to one-size-fits-all vaccine mandates. Due to the discriminatory nature of SB 277, we believe this law must be legally challenged.
